The Designer Wedding Show....

On an excited research mission we took our team down to the Designer Wedding Show, London this month!  With 130 companies, a designer catwalk show and Conde Nast boutique chat show featuring celebrity guests we knew we were in for a treat!  It's a very different type of show from the hustle and bustle of our own Scottish shows with it's calm attitude and bespoke sense of style, we chatted with some lovely suppliers and picked up a few new ideas whilst sipping chilled champagne and watching the perfect bridal catwalk show, here are some of our favourite ideas/companies from the show....

We fell in LOVE with http://www.joheckett.com/ a quintessentially, fabulously unique idea for personalised favours, gifts and table dressing.  Her personalised porcelain creations were simply stunning and very reasonable priced for such a unique product!

For cakes it had to be www.lindafripp.com whose cutting edge designs and inspirational use and style of materials was outstanding, the cakes were SO amazing you wouldn't want to cut them... Although Linda beg to differ telling us "once you have tasted them you'll definitely want to cut them open just to experience their sensational quality again"   From the smell of the cake stand alone we'd have to agree...

Dress wise there  was some super stunning creations, all very elegant and heavily featuring lace, embroidery and beading detail.  Our favourites on the catwalk included Matthew Williamson, Pronovias new collection featuring Ellie Sabb, Temperley London, Louise Selby, Sassi Holford and Lisa Redman although we must admit Little Linen's Angel Face skirts stole the show!

Music wise we were in awe of http://thevernonsisters.com/ who's delectable, angelic sounds swung from Motown to Swing, Jazz and Classical.  These three sisters incredible versatility will perfectly compliment your special day, having played world wide for celebrities and royalty they truly are world-class entertainers.  You just have to listen to their website demo's to know how good they are and yes they also sound that fabulous live!

   

 Finally our last shout out goes to the extremely talented Zita Elza Design Academy, her breathtakingly clever florist design work and living embroidery collection is some of the best work we've seen.  Embroidering fresh or dried flowers to make bespoke creations which were simply artwork.  We are already in touch with Zita to send some of our flowers design team down to her flower school this year so we can bring a touch of her amazing skills back to Scotland for our future brides!  Her attention to detail took even our top event and wedding designers breath away, sharing her passion for creating bespoke pieces  we are so looking forward to working with  her in 2012 and beyond.

2012 focuses on the element of romance, with soft pastels, lace, a nod to the 50’s and Hollywood glamour all coming into play!

COLOUR TRENDS & THEMES

Bright rainbow colours are also big, teaming opposites like Sapphire Blues and Violets with Yellows and Gold’s, Royal Blues, Aqua’s and Purples with Fuchsias and Charcoals.  Icy whites and silvers will be injected with candy pinks, pale yellows and blues.  Natural themes inspired by the elements filter through, incorporating a range of rich Nudes and Gold’s.  Toned down pastels and bright greens with whites, will be just some of the colours we see
in floral design, decor and accents for the big day.

2012 weddings will be elegantly girlie with Nudes, Gold’s, tassels, lace and pearl all playing their roles.  Cream and Ivory floaty, soft sheer fabrics with vintage touches teamed
with elegant muted colour palettes are bang on trend.

From the dress to the decor, accessories are key.   Think - dreamy, whimsical, soft and glamorous… THINK LOVE!

Themes inspired by high fashion and Hauté Couture will ensure that style is of the essence.  The following colours are featuring on all the fashion runways: Turquoise, Coral, Black & White, Yellow, Fuchsia, Deep Red, Slate Grey, Purple and Latte.

Victorian and Edwardian influences are demonstrated with lots of ruffles being used.  For added drama you can NEVER go wrong with black ... sheer elegance and sophistication are always created with
the use of contemporary black.   

Choose centrepieces that are in the same colour tones, but of different
styles and sizes. Think about changing the shape of the tables, mixing round with square or one large U shaped table. These trends give the reception tables a more interesting look and a less “coordinated” feel. Use unique vase fillers from coloured water dyes to fresh lemons & limes, ice, rose petals wrapped lace, hanging diamonds.  Place flowering vines or individually cut flowers directly onto table linens.

 Fresh rose petals and diamond confetti remain the most popular.  Reception chairs are decorated with tulle, fabric overlays with bows or sashes, floral swags and/or ribbons. Bolts of tulle fabric are typically combined with white lights and/or floral garlands for draping between pews and decorating banisters and ceilings.  Candles are always a popular choice for centrepieces, and lend a romantic feel to any room. Choices include pillars, tea lights, floating and tapers, think about the use of scented candles to, reaching all 5 of your guests senses will create an amazing wedding experience for them to be involved in!

Currently, the top wedding themes are “beach“, “garden“, “winter wonderland“, “vintage glamour”, “woodland/rustic”, and “Tiffany Blue” (aqua) and “sparkling diamonds.”  With destination and ethnic-influenced celebrations also remaining popular choices.

Think about using mood lighting to set the scene...

Top tables are replaced with a small table for just the bride and groom, typically called a sweet heart table.   All in one venues remain hugely popular. The convenience of having your guests in the same location for ceremony and reception is a hit for EVERYONE. Think about transforming each part of the day, the ceremony, the wedding breakfast and again for the evening reception. If using just one venue, make the transformation dramatic from day to night; make your guests feel like they are in 3 different venues throughout your day. Use different linen and lighting to really transform each part of your wedding, starting with fresh Whites or Ivory, stepping up the soft romance that beautiful, large flower displays with dripping pearls or diamonds bring to your wedding breakfast, then engulf your evening reception with mood lighting and luxurious velvet or satin linen in deep jewel or soft pastel colours and candle light,
setting the party scene for the night ahead!

Desert tables, cupcakes, and candy buffets remain a popular trend in 2012, consisting of a variety of treats placed in varied sizes of glass containers and grouped on a table. Pretty silver spoons or scoops in each container allow guests to fill small boxes or bags as take-home favours.  Colours of the rainbow, attention to detail & fashion inspired weddings, are amongst the hottest trends for 2012. Bridal bouquets with added brooches and vintage
jewels will create personalised and unique arrangements.
